PLEASE before you do READ below. . .

With the new Marmaduke movie coming out I had that  'sinking in the pit of my stomach feeling' as I thought of past Movie dogs that have spurred people to go out with out thought and research and bring dogs in to there home that are not suited for there family life.  This has happened time and time again.  Not just with movies but also with other popular pets.  It is well documented in California where hundreds of Chihuahuas have inundated rescues when owners found out that they are not always the sweetest dogs in the world.  Beagles after the Westminster win, Dalmatians after each new installment of the movies, even presidential dog choices will bring a surge in people looking for a particular breed.
Each time there is a media storm with animals attached there is a run on the breed/pet and the aftermath can be seen 6-10 months later when young dogs are turned over to rescue because owners are in over there head.

PLEASE STOP and truly do your research prior to getting a Great Dane.
YES they are fantastic dogs: but they can also have enormous problems and very large vet bills to go with them.

THIS IS A GUARD  BREED:
this means there is quite a bit of training and SOCIALIZATION that HAS to be done in the first 2 years of life.
This means dedication and the physical ability to take your puppy/adult to about 100 places in 100 days.
Here are a couple great articles on socialization:

there are breeders that try to tell you that they are producing rare or special colors. . .this is not true and you should run when you hear this.
There are CORRECT and INCORRECT colors in Great Danes.
Though there can be recessive colors produced in any litter:  they are not special or rare. . .
